Hair

You let me handle your hair,
It felt so good;
A river of gold
Kissing the soul.

And now you’re gone,
Vivacious spirit
Pirouetting along
The avenues of life.

Taking your scent
               I cling on
To the little things –

Sunrise stroking the trees
Words remembered
Half-forgotten,
Flowers bursting in Spring.

The tenderness of love.

If I Could #2

If I could leap miles and miles
    Whisper sweet nothings
In your ear
           I would.

If I could pluck stars
     From the sky, scatter
Then upon your bed
            I would.

If I could stitch these
      Words in a luminous
Shawl, untorn
            I would.

If I could barrel
       My kisses
Roll them to you
            I would.

If I could persuade
        The flamingoes
To dance unabashed
             I would.

If I could discard
         These longings
On the altar of touch
             I would.

If I could stand
          Proud and unbowed
The earth would thrill
             Afresh, it would.

If I could cherish thee
           As Spring
Serenades the trees
              I would.

If I could spell a charm
           That carried
You there to here
               I would.

If I could tell you
            The ways
You flit and flare
               I would.

If I could take your hand
            And float in a bubble
Of love, life would be grand
                It would.

Elemental

Slowly, slowly, in tune with
Rhythm of wind, step,
Birdsong, we reach the crest.

The mists disperse.
Rimmed in sunlight,
You laugh raven-like;
Hungry eyes, hair unbound,
Creature of earth and sky.

In an instant the dam bursts,
Slaking our thirst
On the beckoning grass.
Hands softened by longing –
Free, free, free.

Haiku

Silky-smooth breeze

Water pours in scented ease –

Spirits unsheathed.

In The Light Of Your Smile

In the light of your smile
I cross the divide

In the scent of your grace
I walk in bliss

In the glow of your flow
I conquer desire

In the beat of your heart
I float in devotion

In the brush of your lips
I travel through pain

In the snug of your touch
I discard the crutch

In the soul of your mind
I dive, dive, dive.

Last Night

Last night
            I spoke to the moon
Declared my love
             She said
“Come back
            Tomorrow afternoon.”

Today
            I went to the moon
And sang of
            What I had
Told before.

She said,
             With a wide
And gracious smile
            “Tell her
                      Evermore.”

Where I Go

A place I go to
Every year
Ablaze and humming
Season to season
A riot of serenity.

Just thinking
About it
Stirs the heart
Fires the bones
Cleanses the mind.

What better place
For being
For drinking
For watching
For kissing
For loving?

There is no
Traffic of clutter
Here – rather
The hushed calm
Of earth’s pleasing
Charms.

A place I want
To show you.
A place awash
In ardent colour.

We all need these places
We all need these places.
