We Have To Live

We have to live

In this darkened world.

We have to live

In this lightened world.

Despite the horror and the lies

The torture and the murder

We have to live

In this darkened world.

Despite the hatred and the bile

The evil and the rage

We have to live

In this lightened world.

Despite the angst and the vengeance

The fury and the bloodlust

We have to live

In this darkened world.

Despite the hubris and the bluster

The othering and the smothering

We have to live

In this lightened world.

Despite the bigotry and the vitriol

The crowing and the ignorance

We have to live

In this darkened world.

Despite the gore and the slaughter

The rottenness and the stench

We have to live

In this lightened world.

Despite the vileness and the vanity

The twisting and the spinning

We have to live

In this darkened world.

We have to love

We have to listen

We have to give

We have to live

We have to dream

Unknot our troubles

Spill hot tears

Dispel cold fears.

We have to see

We have to hear

We have to touch

We have to taste

We have to feel

Discover the flow

Unroll our hands

Make love below.

We have to live

Nourish the beauty

Cradle the surprise

Travel through sex

We have to reach

And be together

And see the light

In this wounded world.

We have to live

We have to live

We have to live

In this lightened world.

Even Though

Even though
              I haven’t
Seen you
              For what feels
Like an age
              All my thoughts
They fly
               Like dancing stars
In a burning rage.

Even though
                Distance cleaves
In fiendish fright
                I often dream
Of simply being
                The two of us
Walking earthstruck
                Threaded by
Sunlight.

Even though
                 Years have passed
Swallowed in reverie
                  A vision hums
Wedded to brightness
                  Blessed
                                Blessed
                                            Blessed
Drunk in lovers’ light.

Forever

We can only live in the moment
Forget past sorrows, dismiss ancient
Pains, look to tomorrow, smile.
Rise,  dance, kiss your lover,
Create beauty, follow the sun.
Make love, sigh,  revel in the wonder
Of it all.  Now is now is now is now.
The past is a land of closed borders
Time to follow our natural orders.
The impulse burns bright, why crouch?
Stand tall, savour the music, the world
Alive with rich possibility, spinning,
A globe of gladness waiting to be caught.
We can only live in the moment,
For death’s date is coiled like a snake.
The strike can arrive anytime, unexpected,
Expected, a sudden surprise, a lingering
Event. So live the life you want,  let your
Senses unfurl, a glorious canvas absorbing
New memories, the tenderness of touch, Secrets unlocked. Dance through the sorrow,
Unshed your baggage, travel light, walk
Onwards into a future, blossoming,
Fresh heights.

I turn off

I turn off the light
Slip into the dark
Torn and forlorn
Searching the past.

Your hand arrives
Holding me tight
Soft as feathers
Flensing the fright.

Dawn approaches
Over the hill
Touch is a flame
A future to fill.
