If I Could

If I could reach the stars,
Grab a fistful
And give them to you,
I would.

If I could guide the sun
And make it shine
Upon you,
I would.

If I could charm the trees
And tell them to dance
As you walk pass,
I would.

If I could cajole the moon
To send you deep kisses
Steeped in red wine,
I would.

If I could entice the sea
To spell waves
In your name,
I would.

If I could be your duvet
And keep you
Warm at night,
I would.

If I could whisper these words
And make them
Sail across the sky,
I would.

If I could do all these things,
My heart would sing
And that would be grand,
It would.

Transmutation

To absorb this life single

Is fine, but not quite the wine

That shines, unless mingled with you.

Alone, our bodies cannot sing –

Or if they do, it is a muffled

Tune, but your bright song is a boon.

Days once monochrome dance into

Light, bathed in natural affection;

Alchemy makes us more than

What we otherwise would be.

For this, I pray these words may ring,

Hear the colour of love sing and sing.

Ode To WineGums

Let me count the ways

I love thee

Or rather just say

From the tips of my toes

To the ends of my hair.

I love thee

More than all the

Other pretenders

Put together,

So there.

Yes, you are the Queen

Of sweets, let it be said

For as long as I live,

With thee

I do wed!

Winegums, you ask?

It’s anytime, any day for me

No need to be shy

Or curb this hungry desire,

Winegums are mighty fine

I feast upon their shine.

Red, yellow, black

Green, orange, white;

A multi-coloured paradise

Gourmet’s delight.

Palette of wonders

Delectable nectar,

I gorge on such

Nutritious delights!

How best to savour?

Like a vintage wine

Over the course

Of a few hours?

Or wolfed down

With rampant glee

In a matter of minutes?

Either will do

Though I do confess

The latter approach

Fits me best.

I am weak-kneed

In the face of

Such sweetness!

And the shapes

Always amaze:

Kidney, Crown

Diamond, Circle

Rectangle,

Oh resplendent

Shapely pleasures!

Family of divinities

That roll away

Tired frowns.

Ogling your names

Connoisseur’s heaven:

Port, Sherry

Champagne

Medicine for aches

And pains.

Burgundy, Claret

Gin

Oh delicious sin!

Winegums, you ask?

It’s anytime, any day for me

Temptations

Whose brightness

Remains undimmed

Winegums…

How divine!
